This tastybit (Halloween edition)
Before I dive into freakin awesomeness that is external to me and that I can only take claim commenting on (which is by no means as cool as production or initial discovery, but fun nonetheless!) I want to talk about something that I hope to make a weekly: This tastybit. For those of you who know me on twitter, you'll recognize my handle, tastybit. I'll give you a little bg on the entomology of "tastybit", but in order for it to make sense, I have to give your the what on another handle I have used extensibly is sour.patch.
sour.patch was born in something like 2003 from a Slim Cessna's Auto Club song, Sour Patch Kids. I needed a Gmail addy, and Slim being my obsession at the time, having seen them at Thee Parkside in SF, having Slim fall down on me in one of his stage brawls with Munly, sour.patch was what came to mind and it stuck. I loved it for a long time, easy to remember, evocative on a couple of levels. But if you know the song, it's not the most positive thought in the world. A year ago, I decided to start to distance myself from sour.patch. Why? I wanted to have a handle that inspired me. I love tastybit because it is the polar opposite of sour.patch. Just stare at the words for a bit, and you can start to see so many areas where they are dialectical ... it has filled me with warm fuzzies on more than one occasion.
Anyway, This tastybit is going to be a regular entry which basically grabs three or four exceptional things I have looked at in the past week (or so). The idea is to be lightly topical, borrowing from Jeremiah Oywang's "Digest" and the tweets @dykc throws over the fence with the addendum: Marinate.
The 2007 Halloween edition of This tastybit
This has been a wild week for me on a professional level, new job announced today, got some other killer stuff going on I can't talk about (hope to publicly soon!), my daughter's second birthday is coming up in a few days.
Regardless, there is some kewl stuff that's been going on out there and I'd love it if you looked at these things.
energie in motion
BLDG BLOG (one of my all time faves) has a great little write up on Spies, Light Writing and the Surface of the City. It's all about these great light paintings that have been made by two German dewds. Great stuff on BLDG, but you can see even kewler pictures over at energie in motion. They are just phenomenal pics, so surreal and wonderful, even if they are in the vein of those Sprint ads.
Maka Maka & OpenSocial
I dunno if they are one and the same, but tomorrow the big OpenSocial deets are supposed to come out, and this at the same time we are hearing about Maka Maka (still wish they had called it Wakka Wakka, Muppet stylee!)
Both of these sound totally awesome in so many respects, and I know that they might end up sucking ... but the thing with GOOG: suck rarely happens with much fanfare. I anticipate that this is going to be really big. I can't wait I can't wait I can't wait. And with GWT App Dev already being discussed on the Google Web Toolkit blog, I predict 2008 to be a year of disruptive tech.
HOBOTOPIA
HOBOTOPIA is a great blog by Adam Koford (of 700 Hoboes fame, amongst other things) showcasing the life, times and cute-n-lovableness of the Laugh-Out-Loud Cats!
Adam's image at left is called "Laugh-Out-Loud Cats #441" on Flickr. I can't stand how much I love this guy's work. It's just so spot on!
Adam has ANACHRNZIM down pat, playing with the old skool cartoon sensibility while making every joke as timely as it can get, pushing right to the edge of the now.
Diverging from the radness that is HOBOTOPIA, I have to call out that you should definitely add the LOLCats Facebook app and regularly check out Can Haz Cheezburger. Both will actually make your life better.
Oh and Adam, if you create a Laugh-Out-Loud Cats Fb app, let me know so it can usurp the LOLCats one.
The thing that made me ROTFL this week
I wish the vid was embeddable, but it matters not! I will drive linklove to this fabulous snarkfest without hesitation.
